We've Got to Talk About Bob

Is Bob Carr seriously telling us that prior to a certain conversation with Kevin Rudd he had absolutely no idea that Australia's Palestine/Israel policy was up for sale to the highest bidder?

"Former foreign minister Bob Carr has suggested [in his forthcoming book, Bob Carr: Diary of a Foreign Minister] Julia Gillard's dogged insistence on supporting Israel in a controversial United Nations vote was because Australian foreign policy had been 'subcontracted' to Jewish donors... 'How much of this is about money, I asked [Rudd],' Carr writes. 'He said about one-fifth of the money he had raised in the 2007 election campaign had come from the Jewish community.' Carr concludes that 'subcontracting our foreign policy to party donors is what this involves'." (Bob Carr diaries: foreign policy was subcontracted to Jewish donors, Lenore Taylor,, 9/4/14)

Is it seriously possible that this bookish Americanophile has never read Mearsheimer & Walt's seminal work on modern US politics, The Israel Lobby & US Foreign Policy?

What sort of amateur is this guy?

Interesting to note Danby's attacks on him this morning.

Carr is:

*a one-tme "provincial" leader who owes everything to the ALP

Interesting how his alleged effete dandyism is being wheeled out in an attempt to make him a laughing-stock.

Carr is a fairly erudite fellow and of course he will be fully abreast of the controversy raised by Mearsheimer and Walt. But he is a politician, albeit retired, so I guess that is as far as he can take it at present. At least it made top billing on the ABC web site.

The real sadness is that no active politician can dare even to breathe anything at all about the brazen bribery (and at the ABC site, the response from the Jewish lobby group is so laughable that it should be titled "Rambamming doesn't work").

At least it is an encouraging start and I would suggest that anyone here who is able to comment on the Carr 'revelations' anywhere in the MSM provides a link to this MERC website.

I suspect that without Carr's leadership, the 9 Ministers that spoke against voting 'No' would all have been too gutless to speak.

It is now safe to assume that Carr really has no further political ambitions at any level,
both at home or overseas.

Bravo Bob.

Political donations contribute to the success of the Israel Lobby in Australia, but their main power is through their implied threat that any politician not toeing their line on Israel will have the political death bone of anti-Semitism pointed at them.

Try as some may the truth can't be labelled as bigoted.
