The Q & A which followed the screening of a doco (Leaky Boat) on the former Howard Government's so-called Pacific solution on ABC TV last night never really got down to the nitty gritty.
This was despite the presence of a former Afghan refugee on the panel and a contribution by a former Iraqi refugee in the studio audience.
Had I been the Iraqi, I would have been sorely tempted to ask the following question:
Considering Australia's willing participation in the 2003 US invasion and occupation of my homeland, which led directly to the creation of some 4.7 million external and internal Iraqi refugees, including myself, don't you think that Australia has a moral responsibility to take in and care for each and every Iraqi refugee that washes up on these shores?
